June 28th, San Diego. The MIT Startup Showcase was in town at Qualcomm HQ to show off some of the stars of their Startup Exchange; here’s a roundup of the presenters.
Rise Robotics Arron Acosta, Co-founder.
The Rise Robotics team brings the concept of accessibility to wearable robotics, with the vision of creating a build-your-own exoskeleton developer kit – at the heart of which is their unique power solution called the Cyclone. By providing an alternative, cheaper and more efficient option for hobbyists and roboticists around the world with which to experiment and innovate, Rise’s technology democtratizes robotics that have historically been prohibitively expensive and highly inaccessble for most people.
Hydroswarm Sampriti Bhattacharyya, Founder.
Hydroswarm designs and markets artificial intelligence enabled underwater drones. Earth consists of 70% ocean and 30% land and yet, famously, we know more about the surface of the moon than what lies beneath the waves. Only 5 percent of the world’s oceans have been explored. Currently the way of exploring the oceans is by loading a bunch of electronics into something resembling a torpedo (an AUV) which must then explore the vast ocean ranges in a pretty solitary manner. These AUV’s are deployed to monitor oils spills and do environmental monitoring, but they are expensive and don’t have much intelligence. What would be much smarter woud be a swarm of small, autonomous underwater drones that could live almost constantly under water, roaming the oceans and performing all these duties practically all the time. Like an internet of things for the oceans, Hydroswarm is an adaptable, smart drone platform for underwater explanation.
Nara Logics Jana Eggers, CEO.
Nara Logics is the synaptic intelligence company. Synaptic intelligence is a branch of artificial intelligence that combines neuroscience and computer science. Nara Logics builds a synaptic network of explicit and inferred connections to create an intelligence layer on top of chaotic, siloed enterprise data for real-time, context relevant recommendations and gives the reasons behind them. Emoters love to interact with their owners but they also interact with each other and their environment. They charge and wake on their own making them a persistent part of your physical world. They are rewarding to interact with or just check in on, they are a new kind of pet, a new kind of robot.

If you need a custom dashboard, you can build on top of our D3/Vega.js charting API or alternatively connect to the database directly with Apache thrift. In addition to GPUs, MapD fully exploits the performance of CPUs, executing compiled queries simultaneously on both CPU and GPU. Queries too large for GPU memory can be executed entirely on the CPU.

Righthand Robotics is a leader in providing end to end solutions that reduce the cost of e-commerce order fulfillment of electronics, apparel, grocery, pharmaceuticals and countless other industries. Scientists make the world a better place: they design new medicines, safer chemicals and greener plastics, to name a few of their contributions. Though researchers are at the cutting edge of innovation, the tools provided to them have not changed in the past half-century. As scientists themselves, the Tetrascience team has rallied around helping researchers remotely monitor, manage and automate their experiments. Their thesis is straightforward: scientists deserve simple software that is easy to use and makes their lives and research better.
SkySafe Grant Jordan, CEO.
The Skysafe system can take control of a rogue drone over the air and safely land it. With detailed event history and real time notifications, SkySafe offers an unprecedented level of airspace security. The system alerts the user when a drone is detected and, because Skysafe can uniquely identify the drones, they can specifically whitelist certain drones as well. Founder and CEO Grant Jordan, who worked with drones in the U.S. Air Force during his time at MIT, says that SkySafe is meant to work with large clients like companies that want to protect their office parks, airports, or other places that have a no-fly zone.

LONPROX technology enables mobile devices to locate themselves accurately while indoors. LONPROX is unique in the industry in that it makes ease and cost of installation the primary design and engineering objective. LONPROX technology is aso unique in that it is fully aligned with the mobile industry’s commercial and technical ecosystem. LONPROX solutions work by installing low cost special RF reflectors within the premises, a mobile device equipped with hardware and software according to LONPROX technology is then able to locate itself within the premises with a high degree of accuracy. The solution is very easy to install and is low cost enough to allow for installation within private homes by the public. Consequently, it is also easy to install withing commercial spaces.
